The Curry of Life
Rock Lee's curry — so spicy it could put a ninja back on their feet. If you don't finish your plate: 500 push-ups. 🍥
The recipe of Rock Lee, the ninja who can't use ninjutsu but makes up for it with sheer determination — and spice tolerance. From “Naruto Shippuden's Hidden Recipes”.
Ingredients
- 2 chicken thighs
- 1 large onion
- 1 carrot
- 2 medium potatoes
- 1 red chili
- 1 tbsp grated garlic
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 tsp turmeric
- 10 g hot Japanese curry roux
- 1 star anise
- 2 squares of dark chocolate
- sunflower oil
- salt and pepper
Method
- Debone the chicken thighs and cut them into chunks. Finely chop the onion, slice the carrot into thick rounds and cube the potatoes. Chop the chili, grate the garlic and the ginger.
- In a pot, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat and sauté the garlic, ginger and chili. Once they start to color, add the onions.
- Stir until the onions turn translucent, then add the carrot and the potatoes.
- Cover with water, bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer with the lid on.
- Meanwhile, brown the chicken pieces in a pan with a drizzle of hot oil until golden.
- Add the chicken to the pot with the star anise and the turmeric, and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Stir in the curry roux cut into squares, the dark chocolate and half a teaspoon of ground black pepper. Mix well and raise to medium heat.
- Simmer 5 to 10 minutes, until the curry thickens.
- Serve with a generous portion of Japanese rice — and hold on tight for the tasting!
